Hair Loss Self-Test

Assessing Hair Loss at Home

It's natural to feel uneasy when you suspect excessive hair loss and start noticing more strands in your brush or on the bathroom floor. If you're concerned about thinning hair, these two simple self-evaluation methods can provide insights into whether your hair loss is within the typical range.
The Pull Test
If you're concerned about the thickness of your hair, consider trying the Pull Test. Grab roughly 40-60 strands of hair between your fingers and pull gently while running your fingers through it. A typical result would involve 5 or more strands of hair shedding under this slight tension. Should you notice an excess amount, you may be experiencing hair loss.
The Comb Test
To perform the Comb Test, take a comb and gently brush your hair from front to back for one minute. While doing so, lean over a light-coloured towel or sheet. After the minute has elapsed, examine the towel or sheet. If you observe around ten strands of hair on it, your hair loss is generally within the expected range. However, if you notice more than that, it could indicate ongoing hair loss that may require professional attention.
